Big steps

As expected with all the fun events I had planned, this weekend was amazing. Not everything was as stellar and perfect as I had hoped, but it happens. Let's chalk that up to the cosmos re-aligning for giving me such a great time for the most part and not worry about it again.

While at the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party, I did manage to meet the Andelman brothers! The picture I took with Dan turned out better than the picture with Dave (which was later in the night and incredibly blurry), but it was a blast to meet them! The pictures were taken with Joe's phone, so not as clear or high resolution as mine, but he was a sweetie for taking them at all.

On Sunday I picked up the girls from the airport and had lunch with them at Panda Express before ushering them off to the Explo crew. It was incredible to see how much they've changed in just a few short years. It was also amazing to listen to them talk about their interests and realize they've formed into very unique girls with somewhat diverging interests.

After that I went downtown and just gave myself a day full of "me" time. Joe was with Sean and their friend Dom and I didn't want to just go home and veg. I didn't get a run in, but I did do several hours worth of walking around downtown, which was nice. I just wanted to relax knowing I won't be able to relax much the rest of this week. It's a big step for me to identify when I need personal time, as I've never been one to acknowledge needing it. I still prefer to spend time with others and rarely want time to myself, but Sunday taught me that it doesn't always have to be a bad thing.

Speaking of big steps, tonight is my first night of grad school! I have one summer class, Multicultural Issues, that I'll be taking Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9:45pm. This will mean a very long day twice a week (I'm still working full-time), but it will be totally worth it. I'll still have August to myself (the last night of classes is August 2nd) and this will likely make these last few days of working at my current job speed along as well. It's time to move toward what I actually want to spend the rest of my life doing and I couldn't be more excited and nervous!
